NJMAC 2025 KEYNOTE PRESENTATION

Author, Speaker, Advocate for Inclusive Montessori Classrooms
Pam Shanks, M.S. Ed., earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Kansas. Facilitating a match between Montessori and every child is the focus of her work. A master educator, author, and presenter, she specializes in inclusive Montessori education and provides professional development and consultative services for schools and teachers serving children whose development is complicated by delay or disability. Her 35+ years as a Montessori teacher and wide variety of inclusive experiences beyond the classroom have culminated in a deep understanding of the Montessori method, inclusive schools, and inclusive education. She is the mother of two accomplished Montessori daughters and three amazing Montessori granddaughters.
Her book is "The Montessori Approach to Classroom-Based Interventions: A Handbook for Educators, Administrators, Service Providers, and Families of Children Whose Development is Impacted by Delay and Disability." It is centered on matching Montessori classroom-based interventions to common disability categories and characteristics without sacrificing the authenticity of the Montessori experience. It is relevant to learners of all ages and across curricular areas.
